Privacy Policy
Hatoba is built by Currentbits as a local-first app for macOS. This page explains what it does (and does not do) with your information.
We do not collect your data
Hatoba runs no analytics, advertising or tracking. There is no account and no Currentbits server that receives your layout, clipboard, screenshots, notes, files or agent activity. Everything Hatoba stores stays on your Mac, in its own folders.
What stays on your Mac
- Clipboard history (off by default) is saved locally. Items that apps mark as concealed, such as passwords, are skipped, and you can exclude apps.
- Screenshots, text recognition, notes and the file shelf are processed and stored on your Mac. Text recognition uses Apple's on-device Vision framework.
- AI agent activity (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) is read from small local hooks Hatoba adds to those tools' settings, with a backup of each file. Only session ids, folder names and event names are read, never your prompts or code. Turning the feature off removes the hooks.
- System stats, music, Bluetooth, calendar and display settings are read from macOS and never leave your Mac.
When Hatoba uses the network
- License checks. When you activate a license, Hatoba sends your license key and a label for this Mac to Polar, our payment and licensing provider, and checks it again about once a day. It keeps working offline for 14 days between checks.
- Updates. Hatoba checks for new versions. The request contains no personal information.
- Weather (off by default) asks Apple Weather for the forecast at your location every 30 minutes.
- Link icons. When you add a website link to your dock, Hatoba fetches that site's icon once, directly from that site.
This website
gethatoba.com counts visits with Meterbird, so we can see how many people find it, how far they scroll and which visits lead to a purchase: a Buy link carries an anonymous visit id to Polar's checkout. That is the website only: the app itself never sends analytics. If a page script fails, Meterbird records the error so we can fix it. The site sets no advertising cookies, and its fonts are served from this site.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Polar (polar.sh), which acts as the merchant of record and processes payment and tax. Your purchase details are covered by Polar's privacy policy. Currentbits receives your order and license details, which are used only for support and refunds.
Permissions
macOS asks before Hatoba can use Accessibility, Screen Recording, Calendar, Bluetooth, Location, Camera or Automation. Hatoba only asks when you use a feature that needs it, and you can revoke any of them in System Settings at any time.
